Using the Recognition and Response (R&R) tiered model to provide high quality instruction and support, this workshop helps teachers sharpen their Response to Intervention (RTI) skills in providing support and development for individual children.
- Teachers will be able of understand the use of RTI methods to help manage the classroom and monitor the development of each child.
- Children will benefit by receiving additional support, when needed, to excel in each developmental area.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand how to provide support for all children by developing a roadmap of developmental skills, individual tracking and monitoring of skill mastery (Tier 1).
- Respond to children with known risk factors and skill deficits with small group interventions (Tier 2).
- Understand how to provide additional reinforcement, along with intervention service personnel, to children showing a continual need for developmental support (Tier 3).
- Receive materials that will assist in organizing Tiers 1, 2 and 3 instruction (where appropriate).
This workshop will focus on Response to Intervention (RTI) techniques as a way of meeting the diverse needs of today’s children. Although RTI is a collaborative initiative focused on meeting the needs of all children, it can also help classroom teachers bridge the gap between general and special education. This workshop will use the tiered approach for meeting the educational core standards of children in all curriculum domains. This approach begins with whole-group foundational teaching and then narrows the focus to small groups and individual children needing additional support. Emphasis is placed on early childhood standards, inclusion of all children and brain development patterns. Participants will see how hands-on materials can be used in each of the tiers of RTI. The group will also suggest and gather teaching ideas and information for implementing each tier of the model. The workshop will be presented in PowerPoint discussion format, using examples of classrooms that are organized for RTI implementation. The participants will also have the opportunity to learn how to organize lesson planning around curriculum standards and provide inclusive support for each child in the classroom.
When appropriate, the workshop will include materials to help teachers determine activities appropriate for each tier of instruction.
